Golden State Warriors vs. San Antonio Spurs 02/20/2015

For the Golden State Warriors, the 2014-2015 season thus far can best be described as utter insanity. For the first time in franchise history, they entered the All-Star Break with a winning percentage exceeding 82%. Through 51 games, they led the NBA in points per game (averaging 110.6), and had the best home record (23-2), road record (19-7), and overall record (42-9) in the NBA.
However, their dominant performances had stagnated in the final games of the "first half" of the season, as they pulled out agonizingly narrow victories in Philadelphia and Minnesota in games which they should have won with ease. With 31 challenges left on the slate, the question remained: Do the Golden State Warriors have enough left in the tank to finish the regular season on a hot streak and maintain their status as a serious title contender come late spring?
Heading into Friday night's contest against the Spurs, it was unclear to fans and analysts alike as to which Golden State team would appear. Would it be the high-flying, emphatic shooting tandem of Western Conference All-Stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson (more fondly known as the Splash Brothers), or would it be the abysmal, dysfunctional offense that seemingly could not find any sort of rhythm in early February?
On Friday night at Oracle Arena, that question was certainly answered, as the Warriors dispatched of the defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs by the score of 110-99. As usual, Stephen Curry led the way with 25 points, 11 assists, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. Nevertheless, Golden State's victory was a result of a true team effort; in particular, their successful night came courtesy of substantial efficiency from beyond the arc.
The Warriors drained 17 three-point field goals overall, while the Spurs converted on merely 6 of their three-point attempts. Despite the questionable whistles and senseless technical foul calls from the officials, the Warriors exerted themselves on both ends of the court to obtain the victory, and will now have the opportunity to briefly relish their success before beginning their preparation for the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.
