A's Force Game 4 With Epic Comeback Against Astros

The Oakland Athletics tallied five unanswered runs in the late innings of ALDS Game 3 to extend their season.

Despite edging the Chicago White Sox in the American League Wild Card Series, the Athletics' window of success seemed to be closing against the rival Houston Astros in the 2020 ALDS.

The Astros took Game 1 by the score of 10-5 and Game 2 by the score of 5-2.

Thus, the A's entered Wednesday's contest in need of three consecutive victories to stave off elimination and propel themselves into the ALCS.

While there's still much work to be done, Oakland has to feel thrilled with their comeback efforts in Game 3.

After squandering two early leads and allowing the Astros to score five times in the fifth inning, all hope seemed to be lost for the scuffling A's.

With the seventh inning underway, Houston led Oakland 7-4, standing merely nine outs away from their fourth consecutive ALCS appearance.

And then, Chad Pinder struck for an electrifying three-run shot to knot the score at seven runs apiece.

Following Pinder's blast, Houston and Oakland have now combined for an astonishing 18 home runs through three ALDS matchups.

The A's momentum would carry them to two additional runs (via the sacrifice fly) in the eighth inning.

And in the bottom of the eighth, Liam Hendriks (who pitched three scoreless innings to close the game) struck out Josh Reddick with two runners in scoring position to preserve Oakland's 9-7 advantage.

Admittedly, the A's victory in Game 3 was dampened by the loss of infielder Tommy La Stella, who was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning and exited with an apparent elbow injury.

La Stella's health will be in question for Game 4 on Thursday.

While starting pitchers have not yet been announced, first pitch is scheduled for 12:35 PM PST.

What are your thoughts on the Athletics' postseason odds?

  1. It's importanto me for the A's to forget the past post-season failures and focus on the moment, using their talents and some help from God to turn things around and win this ALWD. Fans need to be more positive. I know the negativity is because we love them but possibility thinking is greater than rehearsing problems and complaining. I have been guilty of it myself so I am in cluding me too!
