Giants Annihilate Rockies in Historic Fashion

Backed by a remarkable performance from outfielder Alex Dickerson, the San Francisco Giants marched into Coors Field on Tuesday evening and dismantled the Colorado Rockies by the score of 23-5.

San Francisco entered play with a record of 17-19, trailing their divisional rivals in the standings by just 0.5 games. Although the Giants recently shook their offensive woes to claim a series victory in Arizona, nobody could have predicted tonight's onslaught.

In this contest, Dickerson tallied six RBIs on three home runs (of the solo, two-run, and three-run varieties) to propel the Giants to victory. Adding a pair of doubles to his name, he became just the 15th player in MLB history to record five extra-base hits in a single game.

San Francisco's offensive explosion was also fueled by six RBIs from Brandon Crawford (including a three-run homer and two-run double) and six RBIs from Donovan Solano (including a pair of two-run doubles).

Dickerson, Crawford, and Solano became the first trio in MLB history to each record 6 RBIs in the same game.

Mike Yastrzemski also joined the hit parade with an RBI triple in the fifth, after making a stellar defensive play to spoil a potential Colorado rally in the fourth.

By the sixth, San Francisco would gain an insurmountable lead, pushing across seven runs to eliminate any hope of a Rockies' comeback.

Meanwhile, starting pitcher Kevin Gausman put forth a stellar effort on the mound, particularly by Coors Field standards. The right-hander allowed only two hits (coincidentally, both Garrett Hampson solo blasts) in five innings of work.

Overall, the Giants rattled off 23 runs on 27 hits this evening to tie team records in both categories (since moving to San Francisco in 1958).

Seemingly, their sole disappointment came on a seventh-inning replay review, when Steven Duggar was called out at first base, robbing Dickerson of a bases loaded opportunity in which he could have become the first player in MLB history to hit for the "home run cycle".

The teams will do battle at Coors Field once more tomorrow afternoon, with the first pitch scheduled for 12:10 PM PST.
